Marcia Lynne Mckeever

McKEEVER, Marcia Lynne (Desler) of Scituate, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on August 3, 2011, at the age of 62, after a courageous 7 year battle with a brain tumor. Loving wife of 41 years to Richard.

Born in Boston in 1948, Marcia spent her early years in Roslindale before moving to Scituate in the early 1950’s. She was a 1966 graduate of Scituate High School, attended E. Carolina University and graduated UMass Boston in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts in politics and philosophy. Marcia was a social worker for the Commonwealth of Mass, before starting her family. She later was a gymnastic instructor at Cape Cod Gymnastics and the YMCA. Marcia was an assistant field hockey coach and later head field hockey coach at Scituate High School. Marcia excelled in field hockey and softball during her years in high school.

She greatly enjoyed ice skating, gardening, nature, the beach, long walks with her dogs, reading, drawing and painting. She loved family vacations to Key West, FL and visiting her brother, Chris, at his upstate New York farm.

Devoted mother of Greggory and his partner, Sue Devine, Celynne and her partner Wesley Lawler and Leslie all of Scituate. Sister of David Desler of Billerica, Karen Desler of Scituate and Christopher Desler of New York. Proud grandmother of Eva McKeever and Coyle Lawler. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours Friday, Aug. 5th from 4PM to 8PM at the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd, Scituate. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Aug. 6th at 10AM in St. Mary of the Nativity Church, One Kent St, Scituate, followed by interment in Union Cemetery, Scituate. Donations in Marcia’s name can be made to the Scituate Animal Shelter or to the Norwell VNA Hospice program.
