Born February 2, 1937, Eva was the daughter of the late Jose and Arcenia (Fernandes) Alves. She grew up on the island of Fogo, Cape Verde with her parents and eight siblings. Eva was a homemaker and a loving mother of five children. She often could be found sewing, gardening and baking cakes in her brick oven. Eva wanted a better life for her family so in 1976 she came to the United States, settling in Scituate, Massachusetts. Her laughter was a familiar sound in their house as she enjoyed entertaining family and friends. She was kind, loving and always willing to give a helping hand. Her favorite shows were Lawrence Welk and The Golden Girls. Eva prayed her rosary every morning and was always praying for the wellbeing of others, sharing her strong wisdom and faith.
She was the devoted mother to Ia Jones and her husband Mike of Scituate, Lilia Monteiro and her husband Robert of Georgia, Penny Sowles and her husband Nicholas of Hingham, Jose Monteiro and his wife Olivia of Raynham and Palmira Monteiro of Scituate.
She leaves behind ten grandchildren- Cory, Brendan, Shane, Jolese, Tatiana, Nolan, Evangeline, Sydney, Cearra and Shiloh. Great grandchildren Kymani, Michah and Claire – all of whom she loved deeply.
Loving sister to Jenny Marcelino, Manuel Alves, Francesca Andrade, Natalia Depina, Amy Riodan, Chibi Alves, Fatima Allen and Jose Alves.
Beloved niece of the late Palmira Gomes.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 8 from 5-8 PM. A funeral Mass will take place at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent Street, Scituate on Thursday June 9 at 10 AM. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends are family are respectfully invited to attend.
