Mary was born on March 4, 1929 to the late John & Aspasia Janedy in Somerville, Massachusetts. The youngest of six children, Mary was devoted to her mother and father. Three of her brothers; Andrew, Nicholas and Haley served in the great war and Mary and her sister, Bessie and brother Carl supported the war effort at home. After graduating from Somerville High School, Mary would walk miles into Boston earning minimum wages to help provide for her family.
She married the late Elias Iordanopoulos and they had six children Rebecca, George, Audrey, Elaine and Sandi. She lost a sixth child, Mildi, to childhood sickness in 1957.
After her divorce, Mary remarkably raised her five children on her own, moving often and then finally settling in Framingham, Mass in 1968. When her children moved out on their own, she sold her house and moved to a condo on Nantasket Beach. It was her dream to live near the beach and her condo at the Horizons in Hull was a dream come true.
Mary loved helping others and worked well into her eighties at the Hull Senior Center becoming one of their most beloved employees. She would walk to the Senior Center along the beach everyday and loved to take a lunch in the sun and breathe in the clean ocean air. Her home was full of warmth and kindness and she could often be found cleaning while listening to her favorite Streisand and spending many nights watching her favorite Red Sox.
She was always there for her children – she dedicated her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother who always knew the right thing to say or do to help her children through any situation.
A Celebration of Life is planned for August where all her family and friends are cordially invited.
