

Maureen was born in Cambridge on May 31,1935, the daughter of the late John E. and Isabel (Kiely) Fitzmaurice. She was the youngest sister to the late Sr. Patricia Fitzmaurice, Sister of St. Joseph and the late John E. Fitzmaurice Jr. She loved growing up in Cambridge whether it was roller skating or walking to Harvard Square and the Charles River. Maureen graduated from Mount Saint Joseph’s Academy and received her nursing diploma from Saint Elizabeth’s School of Nursing in September 1956. Her greatest joy and achievement was her love for her large family shaped by her passion for nursing and her Catholic faith.
Maureen was married on July 6, 1957 and was the beloved wife of 65 years of the late Albert Richard O’Neal, Jr. They welcomed 6 children, Patricia (Mark) Parsons, Albert R. (Debra) O’Neal III, Robert S. O’Neal, Maureen O’Neal, Mary Bridget (Frank) Murray and Elizabeth (Patrick) Morrow. 11 grandchildren, Rhonda, Kathryne (Scott) Piccolo, Michael, Matthew, Charlotte, Isabel, Sarah, Joseph, Daniel, Erin and Andrew and 3 great grandchildren, Oliver, Rowan and Zoe.
She is survived by her loving extended family including Mary Ellen Heinze and her late husband George, Patrick O’Neal and his wife Judith, and his late wife Sally O’Neal and Kate Glennon and her husband Charles, and many nieces and nephews.
Known to her family by many names, “Red”, Mom, Grandma, Nannie. Always smiling with her blue Irish eyes, taking in the memories and letting others shine. Her hugs filled us all with her love.
She lived a beautiful life and will be deeply missed.
Visitation Tuesday, July 7, 2026 from 4-7pm at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Christine’s Church, 1295 Main St. Marshfield, MA on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at 10:30AM. Burial with the family will follow at Couch Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
