Born in Quincy, Mass., he graduated from Weymouth High School, and earned his associate degree in accounting at the former Burdett College in Boston, Mass. Before college, he joined the Navy toward the end of the war and was stationed aboard the submarine tender USS Bushnell based in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
He is survived by his brother William Hynes of Cornish, Me., his sons and daughters-in-law Michael K. Hynes and Barbara J. Martin of Allendale, N.J., Paul J. and Joan Hynes of San Diego, Cal., his daughter and son-in-law, Laurie A. and Gregory Toppa of Plymouth, Mass., and three grandchildren, Chris Hynes of San Diego, CA., Lauren Hynes of Boston, Mass., and Delia Toppa of Plymouth, Mass. He was predeceased in 1989 by his wife, Geraldine (nee Brooks). He is also survived by his brother-in-law John G. (Jack) Brooks and his wife Mary of Newburyport, Mass., and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Saturday February 20 from 9am-10:30am at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate, followed by a Funeral service at 11am from St. Mary of the Nativity Church, Scituate.
