Nancy was born in Boston, the oldest of four children, of the late Dennis and Catherine (Clougher) Donohue. Nancy was a graduate of Roslindale High School and began her career at the former New England Telephone Company prior to her marriage.
Nancy married M. Robert (Bob) Cahill in 1957, and they made their home in Dorchester. When Bob began his teaching career at Brockton High School in 1960, they moved their young family to a Campanelli on Brockton’s east side.
Nancy thoroughly enjoyed being a homemaker and took great pride in providing a home cooked meal, complete with dessert, each evening. Nancy would listen to Graham Kerr, “The Galloping Gourmet” on the radio, and use her shorthand skills to quickly write down the recipes. This also provided the kids a great time to sneak in a few forbidden tasks, as mom was not to be bothered at all while transcribing her recipes. Nancy completely embraced the Fondue Phase of the 1970’s, providing many eye rolls from her children.
Nancy belonged to a Wednesday morning bowling league at Maple Alleys with the neighborhood ladies, as well as St. Colman’s Ladies Sodality.
While the kids were in college, Nancy returned to New England Telephone, which by that time was Verizon, and finished her career there, retiring as a secretary in the Real Estate Operations Department.
Nancy was a devout Catholic, taking great pride in her faith, and upon retirement attended daily mass.
Retirement was filled with crafting and shopping for bargains. Lots, and lots of shopping. Due to Nancy’s bargain hunting, she was always dressed to the nines, always in a designer outfit, complete with matching shoes, handbag, and accessories. Saturday mornings began with her weekly hair appointment.
For several years, Nancy has resided at the Cardigan Nursing Home, where they took amazing care of her. Nancy had many friends at Cardigan and was always ready for a good time. The staff at Cardigan is heartbroken at the loss of Nancy.
Nancy was predeceased by her husband Bob, her treasured son Tim, her parents, her sister and best friend Eileen Buckley and her husband George of Cohasset, her brothers Dennis Donohue of Falmouth and Kevin Donohue of Whitman and brother and sister in law Bill and Jeanne Cahill of Beverly.
Nancy was the devoted mother of Eileen O’Donoghue and her husband Dave of Marshfield, and Kathleen Cahill and her husband Phil McGee of Maryland. Nancy was the grandmother of Grant and Garrett Cahill, David and Jack O’Donoghue, Rory Cahill and Niall McGee. Nancy is also survived by daughter in law Claire Timbas, sisters in law Gail Donohue, Judy Natale, Sister Mary Cahill, CSJ, Ann Cahill, and brother and sister in law Jack & Ginny Cahill, and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of Nancy’s life on Thursday, July 2, 10:30 AM, outdoors at Christ The King Church (formerly St. Colman’s) 54 Lyman Street, Brockton, MA. Due to the current Pandemic, masks must be worn. Burial at Melrose Cemetery will be private, as the gravesite is limited to 10 people.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nancy’s memory to the Cardigan Nursing Home Activities Fund, 59 Country Way, Scituate, MA 02066
