Born on August 15, 1942, he was the son of the late James R Duffy Sr. and Anna Duffy of Scituate. He was the beloved husband of Joan (McCormack) Duffy with whom he shared 54 years of marriage.
Together, they raised three wonderful children: Jim Duffy, his wife Jennifer of South Yarmouth; Brad Duffy, his wife Alissa of Wayland; and Kathryn Singleton, her husband Dan of Hingham, instilling in them the values of hard work, kindness and responsibility.
He was the proud grandfather to six amazing grandchildren: Cameron, Ella Caroline, Hayden, Ryan, Charlotte and Daniel. Each of whom brought him immense joy. His presence in their lives—steady, encouraging, and warm—will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
He was the loving brother of the late Jake Duffy; brother-in-law of the late Tom McCormack; and survived by his two sisters-in-law Maureen Duffy and Trisha McCormack as well as being a devoted uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews.
A retired Fire Captain, Norman dedicated his career to protecting others with courage, loyalty, steadiness, and humility. He was a man who led by example—never seeking attention, always earning respect. His character was marked by dignity, grace, charm, and wit, balanced by a deep modesty that endeared him to all who knew him. He forged lasting friendships and was known as someone who was always willing to listen, lend a steady hand, or a bit of well-timed wit. He was a proud member of the Boston Sparks Club and the Bear Cove Fire Museum of Hingham, remaining deeply connected to the fire service and its history throughout his life.
Norman had a deep and abiding love for the town of Scituate. It was more than a place to live-it was home. He knew its streets, its people, and its stories, and he took great pride in serving and being part of the community that he loved so much.
A simple man with a generous heart, Norman lived a life of meaning through his actions rather than words. His legacy lives on in his family, the lives he touched through his service, and the example he set for all who knew him.
He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
