Olivia Paige Butterworth, age 10, passed away on Friday, September 3 after a nine-months long battle with cancer. She is survived by her mother Jill, father Jay, brother Grant, step-mother Jackie, step-siblings Cora, Savannah and Beau, and so many other family members and friends who loved her.
Olivia was born on August 6, 2011 and had a vibrant personality from a very young age. She adored her hometown of Scituate, MA and loved combing the beach for sea treasures, digging for periwinkles, and was happiest when she was swimming and riding the waves. She had a very special bond with her younger brother and it was often remarked that they were like twins. Olivia loved attending school and was fascinated by science and was a very clever writer.
She was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma in January 2021 and fought a very brave battle against an unforgiving disease. She found a way each day to find the best of what the day offered even if it meant an appointment at the Jimmy Fund or a day when she woke up sick from the previous week’s chemo. But she was like that before she got sick. She had a knack for waking up with an optimism and an excitement for average days. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, caring heart and for how bravely she took on her cancer diagnosis.
A funeral Mass is scheduled for Thursday, September 9, 2021 at 11 AM at St. Mary of the Nativity in Scituate. A visitation will take place from 9:45 to 10:45 AM in the church prior to the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, family members respectfully ask that donations be made in Olivia’s name to Beat Childhood Cancer: https://fundraise.atriumhealthfoundation.org/give/277412/#!/donation/checkout. This is an organization that has been instrumental in clinical medical trials for children’s cancers including Neuroblastoma.
