

Ralph William Crane “Bill” passed away peacefully in Hingham Massachusetts on Monday October 10 2011 aged 91. A dedicated father and Dad he cherished and took great pride in his family. Married for over 45 years to the late Barbara Ames Crane he is survived by his children Susan Casterline and her husband Steven, Ralph and his wife Sheri, Morgan and his wife Elizabeth as well as his 5 grandchildren , Kathryn Leigh, William Morgan, Amanda Grace, Emily Elizabeth, Brennan Mathew as well as 8 nieces and nephews and a host of extended family who he dearly cared for and to whom he was affectionately known as ‘Uncle Bill’. Bill, ever a New Englander was born, raised and spent 76 years in Stamford Connecticut before relocating to the South Shore to be close to family. Educated at The University of Vermont and Proctor Academy in Andover Ma he enlisted and served in the Army during WWII and resumed working in the in public utilities/water works industry spending the whole of his 45 year career with the Stamford Water Company. An active man well into his 80’s he enjoyed playing tennis, golf, softball, and most of all skiing. His love of skiing and travel took him to the Rockies, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and throughout New England in search of the ‘the perfect turn’. A lifelong Master Mason he attained the 32nd degree, an honor many masons strive for and was a long time member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish and York Rite Masonic Bodies. Bill had a creative side too. Long know as a lover of words he spent time in his later years crafting short stories, poems, limericks and relaxing with cross word puzzles. He was also an accomplished amateur photographer. With sadness another member of the greatest generation has passed, he will be truly missed by those who stand on the foundation he built.
Friends and Family are invited to attend a Memorial Visitation at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd, Scituate on Saturday, October 15th at 1PM followed by a Memorial Funeral Celebration at 3PM.
