Scituate, MA - Raymond Peters, Jr., 78, died November 7 after a long illness. His family would like to thank the hospice nurses from Norwell VNA for their wonderful care the last two months and his sister-and brother-in-law, Joann and Bruce Crounse, for helping with his care the last two weeks.
Raymond was born on December 21, 1943 in Natick, MA, the son of the late Raymond Peters, Sr. (born in New York City, NY) and Elizabeth Conway Peters (born in Placentia, Newfoundland). He is survived by his wife of forty years, Mary P. Pratico Peters, formerly of Schenectady, NY; his daughter Laura Peters of Weymouth, MA; and four sisters: Elizabeth Capizzo (Frank), Stephanie Repella, Roberta Mazzolla (Philip) and Theresa Peters (Mike Leporati) and many nieces and nephews. He also loved his two Siberian Huskies, Sasha and Kira.
He was a Vietnam veteran and served in the Navy as an Air Intelligence Officer with the highest security clearance – he served as a Leading Intelligence Petty Officer for Commander Carrier Division SEVEN. His willingness to work many extra hours in the support of carrier operations provided an outstanding example, both to the remainder of the staff as well as the ship’s company, according to his commanding officer.
He worked as a graphic designer for most of his life and owned his own book production company for five years with his wife. Ray worked hard his whole life and even had a “retirement job” (as he called it) working seven years for a coin company in Weymouth. He took pride in doing a good job and being a loyal worker to all the companies where he was employed.
His overwhelming love was for his family. He loved surf fishing, wood carving, pen drawing and photography.
Services will be held at a later date. Interment will be at the Gerald B. H. Solomon National Cemetery in Saratoga Springs, NY.
Donations in Ray’s name can be made to the Scituate Animal Shelter, 780 Chief Justice Cushing Hwy, Scituate, MA 02066.
