Regina Mary Schultz

Regina Mary (Frey) Schultz, 83, of Scituate, MA and Jackson, WY, passed away peacefully on July 23rd, 2026. Regina was an extremely loving wife, mother and grandmother, and a fabulous friend to many. She was known for her warmth, generosity, vibrant spirit, and her unmistakably joyful "Regina laugh." She had a remarkable gift for making people feel seen, remembering names and stories and celebrating everyone she met.

Born in the Bronx, New York, Regina was the daughter of Henry and Catherine (Hitchman) Frey. She grew up living in city apartments while enjoying slow and lovely summers with extended family in Pine Bush, NY. She attended St. Catherine’s Academy on academic scholarship, where she enjoyed singing in the glee club and acting in school plays. Regina earned her bachelor's degree in Literature from the College of Mount Saint Vincent and a master's degree in American Literature and Modern Drama from Purdue University. With her degrees, Regina taught High School English and Drama at Mamaroneck High School in NY and later taught English and Science at Derby Academy in Hingham, Milton Academy and Cohasset High School in Massachusetts. She inspired generations of students, many of whom counted her among their favorite teachers.

In 1976, Regina and her husband Gerald found home in Cohasset, MA, where they raised their three children. She treasured the lifelong friendships she built there through the legendary Bridge Club, Knitpickers, and Book Club. She enjoyed all that the South Shore offered from boat rides with Gerry and the kids, to swimming in the ocean, walking the beach with her beloved Keeshonds and savoring summers full of amazing seafood.

Together over 54 years, Regina and Gerald built a life centered on family, friendship and adventure, encouraging their children to embrace the same. Family life was filled with weekends at their cozy Vermont schoolhouse, ski trips to Colorado, and eventually winters spent in Jackson, Wyoming, where they established their winter home.

In Jackson, Regina fully embraced the western culture, history and wildlife, volunteering as a docent at the National Museum of Wildlife Art, and becoming a devoted member of the choir at Our Lady of the Mountains. She loved cross-country skiing on Emily’s Pond, skinning uphill at Snow King Mountain, and downhill skiing well into her 80s. As grandparents, Regina and Gerry spent nearly 18 years teaching and skiing with their grandchildren, leading them down the slopes from their earliest turns as little children through their teenage years. This past Easter Sunday, at 83, Regina was doing it once again, proudly leading her grandchildren down the mountain in a joyful game of follow-the-leader, carving smooth linked parallel turns as they happily followed in her tracks. It was a perfect reflection of the way she lived - leading with joy, confidence, and love.

Regina loved to travel, beginning with her “trip around the world” in her twenties with best friend Mary Jane and continuing throughout her life with Gerald, their children, and eventually their grandchildren. She loved visiting family in California and Colorado, hosting many memorable Thanksgivings and Christmases in Jackson, spending time at the beach in Scituate, and one fantastic family trip together to Todos Santos, Mexico.

Regina brought a unique energy and sense of fun to every gathering, lighting up the room and bringing out the best in everyone. Her family will forever carry forward the words she lived by: "Just show up," "Go for it," and "Carpe diem."

Regina is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Gerald, her son Douglas and daughter-in-law Debbie in Jackson, WY, daughter Courtney and son-in-law Brett in Boulder, CO, son Gregory and daughter-in-law Aislynn in Petaluma, CA. She was the proud grandmother of Abby, Maile, Mackenzie, Jackson, Ophelia, Henry and Quincy. She loved her brother Bob and sister-in-law Jane of Marblehead, MA; her many dear sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law in the Schultz family; her nieces, nephews and cousins; countless good friends; and her treasured Keeshond, Sierra. She will be deeply missed.

A celebration of Regina’s life will be held at a later date and details will be shared with family and friends as they are finalized.
