Born on June 21, 1948, Robert “Bob” was the son of the late Dr. George A. and Kathryn A. (Gilfeather) Curley.
He grew up in Milton. Following high school and college he moved to Vermont where he received his Master’s degree in education. Then California called and he moved to Palo Alto in 1978 where he began work on his doctorate in education. He finished his thesis and received his PHD from Stanford. He went on to teach at San Jose State University and then at University of San Francisco. He was one of the leaders of the Education Department at USF. He also served on the Board of the Children’s Day School in San Francisco, eventually becoming President of the Board. He worked very hard to expand CDS from a pre-school to an elementary school and finally to a school servicing grades K-8. He returned to the east coast in 2010. An avid reader and sports fan, you could find him either with a book in hand or watching his two favorite sports, Red Sox/San Francisco Giants baseball and Celtics/Golden State Warriors basketball.
He faced the health challenges with determination and strength while maintaining his warmth and sense of humor. His laughter will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marilyn (Tepper). He is survived by his son Edmund and his two sisters, Judith Sweeney and Barbara Power (Gerry) as well as his nieces and nephews, Kelly Cornell (Don), Tara Szymaniak(Jeffrey), Sean Power (Elizabeth), Nicole McManus (Aongus), Chris Sweeney and the late Deirdre Zaccardi.
