Born in Quincy, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Frederick Albert and Hazel (Wicher) Leach. He graduated from Weymouth High School. His first job was delivering ice for refrigeration to beach communities including the town of Scituate. He became a machinist and worked for Pneumatic Scale in Quincy before becoming one of the owners and operators of Peterson and Nash, a family owned company located in Hanover, Massachusetts. After retirement, he and Mary enjoyed helping care for their younger grandchildren. He was actively involved with all his grandchildren.
He enjoyed sports of all kind, both playing them when younger and watching them later in life. He was a member of Harbor United Methodist Church in Scituate and supported the church and their missions in various ways. He was a Lay Speaker for the United Methodist Southeastern Conference. His favorite activity was spending time with his family but most especially his wife, Mary. His family often kidded that they were “attached at the hip”.
He is survived by his children, Robin Smith (Stephen) and Jay Leach as well as Mary’s children, Michael Voelger (Allison), Matthew Voelger (Jeanmarie), Marissa Voelger (Thomas) and Meredith Lynch (Paul). He treasured all his children. He was the loving grandfather (Papa Bob) to nine grandchildren-Lee Metcalf, Joshua Leach (partner, Angie) Nathan Leach (Leigh), James Voelger (Daniele), Galina Smith, Mackenzie Voelger, Gretchen Voelger-Swain, Otto Voelger and Inga Voelger as well as two great-grandchildren. He is survived by his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Stella (Peterson) Leach and his daughter, Tina Leach; his brother, Harold H. Leach and two half brothers, Albert and Earl.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for the near future.
