

Bob was the son of the late Louis Tonry and Rosamund (Pinkham) Tonry, and the stepson of the late Georgia (Kacos) Tonry. He grew up in Hingham and attended Hingham Public Schools for many years, but graduated high school from Fryeburg Academy in Fryeburg, Maine.
After Fryeburg, he went straight to the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he completed a Bachelor’s Degree.
He moved to Scituate in 1978, where he started Tonry Tree Service, a small business he would continue to run for over 30 years. He also refurbished air conditioners that he would re-sell.
He loved to tinker with invention ideas and received a US patent for a manual push shovel in 1999.
Bob also enjoyed racquet sports and was a competitive tennis, racquetball and handball player. He was a member of several health and fitness clubs on the South Shore over the years and enjoyed bicycling, swimming and surfing.
Bob was a free spirit and had a lively sense of humor. He enjoyed making jokes and trying to make people see the lighter side of life.
Bob is survived by his sister Susan (Tonry) Kelley of Incline Village, Nevada; his brother Lou Tonry of Quincy, Massachusetts; his stepbrothers, Carl Traina of Hingham, Massachusetts and Richard Traina of Sterling, Massachusetts; his stepsisters, Dr. Pamela Traina of Klamath Falls, Oregon and Dr. Valerie Traina of Gilroy, California; and many other relatives and friends.
Visiting hours are Thursday, June 1st from 4:00-6:00 pm at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate, Massachusetts.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory can be made to the donor’s choice to any worthy charity.
