

VANARIA, Salvatore J. of Scituate, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on December 9, 2010, at the age of 85. Salvatore, born and raised in Waltham, MA, served with the U.S. Navy during WWII and was former Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus in Scituate. He was a respected member of Carpenters Union Local 33 a master cabinetmaker, and avid gardener. Loving husband of the late Mary E. (Curran). Devoted father of Catherine Varanka and her husband Robert of Hampden, MA. Neil Vanaria and his wife Kathy, currently residing in Goroka, Papua New Guinea; Marybrigid Vanaria of Scituate, Ann Sleboda and her husband Stephen of Wilbraham, MA Deborah Brennan and her husband John also of Wilbraham; Regina Vanaria of Ellington, CT and Therese Vanaria of Boston, MA. Brother of the late Josephine Taranto, Mary Zeolla, Basile Vanaria, Joseph Vanaria and Angela Lando, and grandfather to the late Mary Eileen Sleboda. He is survived by his sisters Giovanna Melisi of Marlboro, Christina Vanaria of Concord, MA and Eleanor Arsenault who resides in NH, as well as his dear longtime friend Marian McCarthy. Proud grandfather of Maria, Sarah, Anthony, Carly, Alice, Benjamin, Grace and Joshua. Cherished uncle to all his nieces and nephews. Friends and family are invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, Dec. 13th 4PM-8PM at the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home. The funeral procession will begin at the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd., Scituate, on Tues., Dec. 14th at 9AM followed by a 10 AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anthony’s Church, 129 S. Main St, Cohasset. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Scituate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Joslin Diabetes Center, or to the Foyer of Charity of Scituate, MA.
