Healy, Stephen Michael (Mike)

Age 84, of Scituate, and previously of Quincy, entered into eternal rest after a brief illness surrounded by his family on Wednesday, October 23, 2019. Born in Athenry, Co. Galway, Ireland on November 7, 1934 to Mary (Hession) Healy and Frank Healy. Loving husband to Mary (Maureen) Healy for 58 years, devoted father of Stephen and wife Tara of Hanover, Paul and wife Kathy of Chattanooga, TN, Fiona and husband Tom Benson of Scituate, and Michelle Healy of Washington, DC. Proud “Papa” of Patrick, Kathryn, Michaela, Molly, Caroline, Grace, Nora, Colman, Jenna, Liam and Celia. He is survived by siblings Morgan, Desmond, John, Jane, Carmel, Claire, Bernadette, and Agnes of Ireland and the late Mary, Frank, Patrick, Paul, Owen, and Peter Healy. He was the proud uncle of 51 nieces and nephews.

Mike emigrated to the United States in 1960 and settled in Dorchester, and later resided in Quincy, and Scituate. He was a lifelong employee of Stop and Shop Supermarkets retiring in 1997. His passion in life was music and he was gifted with an exceptional tenor voice, he sang joyfully in the choirs of Sacred Heart Quincy, St. Mary of the Nativity Scituate, and St. Anthony’s Cohasset. He studied to learn the piano in retirement and sang at hundreds of weddings and funerals throughout his life. He was a devoted fan of his children’s and grandchildren’s sports, rarely missing a game, and a lifelong fan of Boston Sports teams. His biggest passion however was rooting for the BC High sports teams. He was a kind and quiet man who would soon become acquainted with any stranger that he encountered. He was a compassionate man who volunteered for 23 years delivering Meals on Wheels in Scituate and for many years serving meals at the Long Island shelter in Quincy. He had a passion for gardening and delighted in growing roses.

I don't think I can express my fond memories of Uncle Michael any better than Toni Dillon, she described him
so well... his sunny disposition, his beautiful voice, his lovely American twang and his classy silver hair.  My thoughts and prayers are with you all, today and in the weeks and months to come.  This line brought me comfort when Dad passed, 'He has gone no further from us than to God, and God is very near.' All my love, Megan
