Sue Foss

Sue Foss passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 10 after a short illness and a courageous battle. She is survived by her husband Dave, daughters Emma and Abby, and son Will. She is also survived by her brother Mike Yurkewicz and sister in-law Betsi Yurkewicz of Moorestown, NJ; sister in law Andrea Waselko (Foss) and brother in-law Jeff Waselko of Powell, OH; niece Zoe Yurkewicz,; nephews Alex Yurkewicz, Jonathan Waselko and Sam Waselko; and her parents Bill and Diane Yurkewicz of Estero, FL.

Sue was born and raised in Saratoga Springs, NY close to her extended family throughout upstate New York. She graduated from the University of Rochester where she met her husband Dave and also from Albany Law School before heading down the MassPike pursue a career in corporate litigation and of course, the beach. Dave followed her to Boston a year later and over their 28 year marriage they created a family founded in love ready to place deep roots in New England. Ultimately they made their home for more than 20 years in the seaside town of Scituate, MA.

Emma, Abby and Will came along over a period of just 18 months. With Abby and Will’s special needs, Sue retired from law and dedicated herself to her children. Sue focused on providing for her kids, and her passion was watching them progress through endless dance competitions, the Cotting cheerleading team, and hours long swims in Florida. She instilled in her children a strong sense of kindness and resilience, something they needed in abundance this summer.

Sue was a selfless, devoted mom, wife, sister and daughter who gave up her own time and space for others, never asking for time away, or her own respite. She gave everything she had to others and we are forever grateful to have had her in our lives. This was most evident in her support for people with special needs, and especially those caregivers in our midst that people rarely notice. These are parents, extended family members, guardians, and others who carry heavy burdens, physical and emotional, as they care for others who are challenged with caring for themselves and fitting into our society. These caregivers are the most resilient, kind and selfless people. Sue was the epitome of a selfless caregiver.

Sue’s happy place was in Naples, FL where the family would take quick wintertime trips to get an escape from the New England cold, and to leave their day to day challenges behind, if only for a few days. Sue loved sitting outside listening to the hundreds of birds, watching for deer or alligators, and fretting about the potential for a snake to make its presence known. She enjoyed slow drives down Gulfshore Boulevard to get a little Gulf breeze or to see the beautiful banyan trees. We will always remember her each time we see one of her beloved flowering bougainvilleas.

We invite all to visit with us on September 14, 2026 at Richardson Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd. Scituate, MA between 3-7 pm.

A private service and final resting place will be in Naples, Florida at a future date.
