Veronica “Bonnie” (Barron) D’Agostino, 77, of Scituate, passed away on April 20, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late Daniel D’Agostino, with whom she shared nearly 36 years of marriage before his passing in 2005.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late James and Anne (Gavin) Barron. After living in Dedham until the age of 5, Bonnie and her family moved to Scituate. Bonnie graduated from Scituate High School in 1965. After briefly attending college, Bonnie attended Northeastern where she earned her Certification in Dental Assisting in 1968. After moving to Boston in her early 20s, Bonnie met her husband Dan. They married on September 28th1969 and moved to Waltham. Their son, Marc was born the following August. Their daughter Beth joined shortly after in 1972. In 1975, the family moved to Marshfield, where they raised their children in a neighborhood of close-knit neighbors who became like family. In 1977, with two young children, Bonnie decided to join her husband Daniel and enlisted in the National Guard. Her daughter fondly remembers proudly wearing a t-shirt with black lettering with the words “My mother wears combat boots” to her Kindergarten classroom. Bonnie and her husband were both activated to duty for two weeks during the historic blizzard of 1978, where they rescued members of the community and provided support. Bonnie served as a medic in the Army National Guard where she quickly rose through the ranks and won several military awards including one for saving the life of a fellow soldier who was experiencing a diabetic episode. Bonnie reached the rank of E8, Master Sergeant before retiring from the National Guard in 2005 after 28 years of service. Bonnie and Dan’s friends in the service liked to joke with Dan as Bonnie attained that rank before he did.
Bonnie was a passionate tennis enthusiast, taking up the sport as an adult and quickly becoming an excellent player. Bonnie took her love of tennis and worked the front desk at both the former Mill Pond Tennis Club in Hanover and the Kingsbury Club & Spa in Kingston, while her children were in school. When her children were growing up, Bonnie coached their soccer and basketball teams. Her daughter also followed in her footsteps and took up tennis and some day aspires to be as good as her mom.
When her children got older, Bonnie went to work as a Dental Assistant at South Shore Periodontics, where she worked for several years before her retirement.
Bonnie filled her life with joy and adventure, frequently traveling with her military friends and sharing unforgettable experiences, including deep-sea fishing excursions. Bonnie also had many “tennis friends” who along with her military friends became friends for the rest of her life. A dedicated animal lover, Bonnie cherished her pets and adored her grandchildren, finding true happiness in their company and of whom she was so proud.
Bonnie was truly the life of the party, always bringing people together with her infectious energy and kindness. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Bonnie brought this energy to the Cardigan nursing home during her final years where she enjoyed singing and dancing and even had an unofficial walking club at one time.
