

Walter James Connelly, 92 of Marco Island FL and Weymouth MA, formerly of Scituate and South Boston passed away peacefully on July 25,2025. He was the beloved husband of the late Margaret (O’Toole) Connelly with whom he shared 49 years of marriage before her passing in 2018. He was also the beloved husband of Patricia (Lennon) Connelly before her untimely passing in 1963.
Walter was born on January 14, 1933 in South Boston to the late Thomas and Mary (Welch) Connelly. He enlisted in the Marines at 17 after graduation from South Boston HS where he played Hockey. He served as a Corporal in the Korean War. Once a Marine , Walter was always a Marine. He lived the Motto Semper Fi (Always Faithful). After returning from Korea he began a long career spanning over 40 years with Boston Edison. He started as an elevator operator and ended his career retiring in management as a Lineman Supervisor. Walter was loved and respected by all who met him, he had an incredible work ethic and honesty that went well with his quick wit. He was a loyal and beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend. Any one who met him described him as a true Good man. And yes he was known for being very handsome.
He was a loving father to Jil (Mike) McMahon of Carver, Gregg (Suzanne) Connelly of Rockland, Kim Connelly of Weymouth, Tracy (Bob) Cutting of Scituate, and the late Walter (Jimmy) Connelly, JR of Michigan. He was the beloved grandfather of Michael (Kristi) McMahon of Plymouth, Shauna (Dave) Marx of Hanover, Kacey (Jessie) Colton of Colorado, Christine Cutting of Scituate, and Courtney Cutting of Scituate. He was the Great Grand Papa to Lillian Marx (3) of Hanover, Connelly Colton (2.5) of Colorado and Maeve McMahon (4 weeks old) of Plymouth. Brother to the late Ann (Bill) Begley, He was a special beloved brother to his older sister Jean O’Sullivan who’s late Husband Bernie O’Sullivan was not just his brother -in-law but his best friend. He is survived by many nieces and nephews who greatly loved their Uncle Walter.
A visitation will be held from 3-7pm on Wednesday July 30, 2025, at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 am on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent Street, Scituate. Interment immediately following at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
