Wayne Allen Peterson

Wayne A. Peterson, at age 84 years, departed this life peacefully at Newfield House in Plymouth with his beloved wife, Marie (Sheehan) holding him and the love of his devoted children, Eric Peterson and his wife Patricia (Student) and Ingrid (Peterson) Dehler and grandsons, Beck Peterson, Charles and Harrison Dehler.

Wayne was born at home on February 15, 1942, the youngest child of Harry and Hazel Peterson of Hanover. He is survived by his sister in-law, Jayne (Nangle) Peterson and brother in-law, David Kelley of Florida. He is predeceased by his parents and sisters, Barbara (Peterson) Kelley and Stella (Peterson) Leach, all of Hanover, his brother, Karl Peterson of Marshfield, his granddaughter, Jessica Lynne Peterson and son-in-law, William D. Dehler Jr.

After graduating from Hanover High School in 1959, he attended Northeastern University while working at Pneumatic Scale in Quincy. When first married, he started a landscaping business. He went on to be President and owner of Peterson and Nash, Inc., a manufacturer of industrial knives. He was a champion discus, shot-put, and track athlete as a member of the Hanover High School track and field team

On February 18, 1962, he married the love of his life, Marie, and raised two children, Eric and Ingrid, in Hanover, later moving to Norwell. For many years, summer vacations were road trips travelling the United States. He enjoyed the pool, boating, skiing, camping, golf, dancing, family get-togethers, and many joyful events with family and friends. Music and singing were always part of his enjoyment, whether going to the Boston Pops, The Phil, local band concerts, or singing karaoke. He cherished his home; it was his castle and, he especially loved gardening. Everyone loved getting his fresh grown vegetables.

Over his lifetime, he remained close with his childhood friend, William Joy and his wife, Marilyne, of Charlevoix, MI and Florida. Wayne and Bill shared many adventures and travels during their youth.

Wayne was good, kind, loving, and generous. He lived a Christian life and valued family and friends. While a quiet person, Wayne lived his life caring for others. When a family member or friend needed help, he was there, did what was necessary, never looking for recognition. He volunteered at Habitat for Humanity and served meals at Father Bill’s.

Wayne’s passing leaves his wife with a broken heart. She will always love him; real love stories never have endings.

A visitation will take place from 3-7 pm on Tuesday September 1, 2026 at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate, Massachusetts. A Service will be held at 10 am on Wednesday September 2, 2026 at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow at Hanover Center Cemetery, Silver Street, Hanover, Massachusetts. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
