

Abe Lieberman, 94, passed away Saturday night, July 30, 2005 at his home at The Village in Scottsbluff. A celebration of his life will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 4, 2005 at the Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel with Sister Vera Meis officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff with military rites by the Nebraska National Guard. Lieberman was born December 18, 1910 in Ostrow-Lubelski, Poland, the son of Isidore and Temma (Cohen) Lieberman. He came to the U. S. in 1920 with his parents, brother, and two sisters. His early years in America were spent in Jamaica Long Island, NY; Williamsburg, Brooklyn; and the Lower East Side of Manhattan. An uncle Hymie Cohen brought Lieberman to the North Platte Valley in 1929, and he lived in Scottsbluff ever since. During the 1930’s, Lieberman worked in the scrap iron business with various relatives. On December 7, 1941, he married Belle Appel of Denver, CO, who died April 12, 2004. Lieberman served as a corporal in the U. S. Army during World War II, and after his honorable discharge in 1944, he returned to Scottsbluff where he owned the Standard Hide and Metal Co. Lieberman continued to work in the hide and metal business until well into the 1970s. He owned the Sidney Iron and Metal Co. in Sidney and a hide and fur business in Las Vegas, New Mexico. He was an early member of the Eagles Aerie, #2998, the American Legion, and the VFW. Over the years he contributed to many church and charitable organizations in Scottsbluff. Lieberman loved to talk, particularly about business, and continued to meet friends for coffee at their “smart table” at McDonalds until a few months ago. He is survived by his two children: Trudy Lieberman, a journalist of New York City, and David Lieberman, a retired FBI special agent, of Golden, CO. He is also survived by, his son-in-law, Andrew Eiler and granddaughter, Kirsten Eiler of New York City.
