

Agnes Lois Thompson Quinnett 56-year Scottsbluff resident Agnes Quinnett passed away in Lincoln Wednesday March 28th 2007. She had been living at Milder Manor Care Facility in Lincoln since late 2005. Born in Grand Junction Colorado on September 27, 1922 to Agnes Thompson and former Scottsbluff City Manager Thomas Edward (Ed) Thompson, she was raised in Shawnee Oklahoma, where she graduated from Shawnee High School and in 1940 was selected Miss Shawnee. She attended Oklahoma Baptist University and Oklahoma University and during World War II worked for the Department of the Navy. On August 6, 1944 she married Army air Corps Pilot Philip H. Quinnett, who later became a local businessman and Scotts Bluff County Commissioner. They lived in Shawnee OK, Norman OK, North Platte NE and settled in Scottsbluff as their final home place. Agnes’ life-focus was as wife and mother, but she was also heavily involved in the Scotts Bluff community. She was active member of St Agnes Catholic Church and the St Agnes Altar Society. Agnes participated in the Scottsbluff PTA at many levels while her children were in the school system. She was involved with the Cub and Boy Scouts as an adult leader and was a member and Chairman of the local American Field Service Chapter. Through AFS, she and her family hosted a foreign exchange student, Guy Maugier in 1966-67. She was a volunteer for the St Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels, and Tele-Care program for shut-ins. She was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha business women’s sorority. In the 1980-90’s she was heavily involved with the Nebraska Republican Party. Throughout her life, Agnes was an ardent sports enthusiast. She especially enjoyed fishing and camping as well as hunting. Agnes was active in various bowling leagues and the Riverview Golf league. She is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, a grandson, her son-in-law, and her husband. She is survived by her Daughter, Lois Akin of Lincoln; Son, Philip E. Quinnett of Cleveland TN; Grandchildren, Jennifer Bauchrowitz of North Las Vegas NV, Melissa Akin of London England, Philip Quinnett of Milan Italy, Heather Akin of Madison WI and Amanda Quinnett of Cleveland TN; and Great-grand children Helena Bauchrowitz and Jack van Dyk. Memorials are being established at the Panhandle Humane Society and Saint Agnes Catholic Church. Visitors may call between 9:00 AM and 8:00 PM Tuesday April 3rd at Dugan-Kramer Chapel. A rosary will be held Tuesday evening 6:30 PM at Dugan-Kramer Chapel. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St Agnes Catholic Church Wednesday April 4th at 10:00 AM with Father Don Buhrman officiating. Internment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
