

He was born April 19, 1953, in Whittier, California, to Leo Genaro Escalera and Reynalda (Flores) Lopez.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 11:00 am at Central Church of Christ, 1245 Five Rocks Road, Gering, NE 69341.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are established for the family or donations can be made to Cornerstone Church, 2122 Ave F, Scottsbluff, Nebraska 69361.
Cremation has taken place, and burial will be at a later date in Bingham, Nebraska.
Turi spent his early years through high school growing up in La Mirada, California. After high school, he and friends "the Lowlanders from Chadsey Drive" decided to get out of southern California and followed a friend to Denver. In 1974, they heard that Burlington Northern was taking applications there in Denver for jobs in Alliance, Nebraska. He worked at the Safeway Craigmont Soda Warehouse before moving to Alliance. In 1977, he took a job for the State of Nebraska for a year then was hired at BNRR on June 19, 1978. Where he worked as a Labor Welder/Grinder. Then retired on March 9, 2009.
He met the love of his life Kimberli Ring, on December 9, 1979, at the Iron Horse in Alliance. They were married February 15, 1984. To this marriage they welcomed Marla Summer, Eric Arthur, and Garrett Eugene. Arthur formed many friendships with coworkers, his wife's family, and friends.
Those who knew Turi knew after work he could be found watching his favorite show, since he was 10 years old, he was the Jeopardy King. He was an avid TV person enjoying especially sports, football, baseball, old movies and sitcoms. He had a large memory bank of old rock and roll, jazz, and blues music and songwriters. He was very knowledgeable in American History. He had a special interest, in the Midwest and American Indian History. He enjoyed deer and pheasant hunting and was an avid fisherman. He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren, and many vacations and camping trips with his family and friends.
He will be known for his unique sense of humor and kindness to all of his friends, family, and railroad family.
Preceded by his father; grandparents; son Garrett; In-Laws Charlotte Schanaman and Merlin Ring; one nephew.
Survived by his mother and wife; daughter Marla Escalera of Huntington, Beach; son Eric Escalera of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandsons Gabriel Escalera of Hastings, Nebraska, Lorenzo Escalera of Lincoln, Nebraska, Jett Hawk of Huntington Beach, California; granddaughter Aryanna Escalera of Bayard, Nebraska; brother Roger Escalera of Oahu, Hawaii; sister JoAnn Stroup of Columbia City, Oregon, Linda Escalera, La Mirada, California, Monika Escalera of Joshua Tree, California, Diana (Larry) Jones of Whittier, California; 3 nephews,4 nieces, 5 great nieces, 3 great nephews, and 1 great great niece.
