

In her final hours, Audrey Lorraine Hellyer, 81, was surrounded by her family and the love they all shared for her. On Thursday, February 18, 2010, she left her earthly home to touch the face of her Lord and Savior as she passed through the gates of Heaven. Funeral services will be held at the Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Pat Karn presiding. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery following the services. Viewing will be on Monday, February 22, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the chapel. Memorials may be given to the American Red Cross. Audrey was born August 29, 1928, the eldest daughter of Roy Jason and Ellen Mable Harden. She lived and attended school in Scottsbluff and at the early age of 17 she began her life’s love career of nursing. She began her work at the downtown Scottsbluff Regional Hospital, moved on to work at St Mary’s in 1963 and then later at RWMC. Audrey worked at the Denver General Hospital and at the Brush Hospital in Colorado. Later in life Audrey worked in the Drugstores and continued long time friendships with many people along the way. Audrey was an avid gardener and planted hundreds of Iris flowers at every home she lived at throughout Northern Colorado and the Scottsbluff area. She was always ready to swap one color for another with anyone who shared her love of the Iris. Audrey was devoted to her church family and friends and shared her love for them with her needlework and the making of quilts that went around the world to many missionaries in the field. She made a multitude of baby quilts for all the newborns she encountered along the way. Audrey continued her card ministry almost to the end of her time and had a card ready to mail to anybody for any occasion, anywhere. Enclosed you always found a card selected only with you in mind, her words of encouragement, a huge measure of love and a message from her beloved Word of God. Audrey married and expanded her nurturing, loving and caring to her 5 children and relatives. Audrey is survived by her daughters, Linda Higgins of Scottsbluff, Mary (Steve) Vogel and Gerri Harden of Alliance, her son George Stenzel of Hemingford. She has 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. She has sisters Doris Smith of Kansas, Joyce Scofield and Twila Brott of Colorado, brothers Gerald (Margaret) Harden of Scottsbluff, Delbert (Carol) Harden of Gering and numerous nieces and nephews. Audrey was preceded in death by her dearly loved Grandma Brott, her parents, brother Donald Harden, son Donald Hellyer and two grandchildren.
