

Betty Slafter Greenhalgh, 84, of Scottsbluff died Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 17, 2009 at First Christian Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Michael Stein officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to First Christian Church. Friends may call at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel between 9:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. Thursday. Betty Irvine Vohland Slafter Greenhalgh was born August 21, 1924 in Scottsbluff to August and Iva (Pierce) Vohland. She attended school in Scottsbluff attending the first kindergarten class held at Lincoln Heights School and graduated from high school in 1942. She attended Scottsbluff Junior College. June 10, 1945 she married her high school sweetheart, Roger Slafter. Betty’s life was centered around her church, family, business, and friends. Betty taught Sunday School, worked with outreach programs, was an elder, and served on the state board for the Disciples of Christ Church. Betty and Roger had three children and nine grandchildren. Betty was always involved in her children’s activities and never said no to driving the “kids” to out of town games and events. Betty and Roger were partners in Slafter Oil Company as they developed and grew a small gasoline tank wagon company into a thriving fuel and interstate oil business. Betty enjoyed playing bridge and gathering with her friends, many of these friendships lasted from early childhood through her life. After Roger’s death Betty married Reverend Thomas V. Greenhalgh. Betty was a beautiful woman with a great faithful spirit who blessed the lives of her family and friends. Betty will be missed by her children: Cindy Bowker and Carol and Ron Diffendaffer of Scottsbluff, Roger (Randy) Slafter of Greeley, Colorado; her grandchildren: Joel and Lori Diffendaffer of Kansas City, Sara and Kam Belden of Scottsbluff, Brad and Kristi Bowker of Lincoln, Clark and Diana Diffendaffer of Gainesville, Florida, Elizabeth (Lise) and Joseph Kalinowski of Laurel, Montana, Allison and Kory Werts of Junction City, Kansas, Nathan Slafter of Brooklyn, New York, Ben and Barbara Slafter of Berthoud, Colorado, and Talitha Slafter of Greeley; four great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren. Betty is also survived by her husband Vern Greenhalgh of Scottsbluff, her niece Terri Stevens Wells of Phoenix, Arizona whom she helped to raise, her sister-in-law Peggy Vohland, and many cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends she loved and cared about. Her husband Roger preceded her in death as did her parents, her brothers Wayne and Keith, half-brothers Everett and Donnie, half-sister Loine Evans, and two infant sisters.
