Bonnie Mead, 72, of Gering, Nebraska, went home to be with her Lord December 23, 2012 at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services will be held December 28th, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Calvary Memorial Church, with Pastor Gary Hashley officiating. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering. Friends may call at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel from 1-8 p.m. Thursday, December 27, 2012. Memorials may be sent to the family or to Center Cross Community Church. She was born January 6th, 1940 at Sioux City, Iowa to James Wilson and Lillian (Anderson) Wilson. She graduated from East High School in Sioux City, Iowa in 1958. On July 27th of that year she married her love, Larry Mead. She spent 21 years never really settling anywhere, moving with Larry due to his military service. She never complained about living out of a U-Haul trailer in various parts of the states. She spent most of her time raising 5 boys; husband Larry, and sons Mike, Dave, Dennis and Jim. This took most of her time but she still found time to work outside the home whenever necessary. She took on a new role when Larry accepted the position of pastor at Gering Baptist in 1979. Although he had preached most of his adult life, full time ministery had not been part of their life. In 1995 she moved to St. Croix, U.S.V.I. with Larry to “Suffer for Jesus” on this tropical island. She loved the water and the people of St. Croix as if she had lived there her entire life. Her only regret of living in St. Croix was her grandkids were on the mainland. In 2002 she and Larry returned to Gering due to Larry’s health. They moved back into the home they had lived in since 1980. She once again got involved with the church as a deaconess, counselor and social coordinator. She is survived by sons Mike (Laurel), David (Jennifer), Dennis (Dee Dee) and James (Laura). Grandchildren Michael David, Katie, Brendan, Mariah, Michael DeVere, Madeline, Makayla, Shaylee, Maddy, Audree and Christopher, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister Montis and brother Dale.
