He was born in Kimball, Nebraska to Charles Ivan and Rena Mildred (Olsen) Anderson on May 22, 1943. Banner County Nebraska was always his home where he first attended a rural log house school 100 yards from his house, then Albin Public School and finishing his education through his Junior Year at Banner County School. A serious motorcycle/car accident in 1959 and a two-year recovery made it impossible for him to go into his Senior Year. In 1970, he completed his GED in Cheyenne, Wyoming and actually wound up teaching part of his welding class.
Farming was always the occupational love of his life, and he was able to fulfill that desire, starting on a Ford Jubilee tractor at the age of ten until semi-retiring in 2014. He went on to instill that love and his vast agricultural knowledge into the lives of his children and grandchildren. The seventy some year span, through the good and bad of farming saw many changes from pioneering sunflowers in the area to chemical farming. A cow, calf operation was only a sideline as nothing could replace the scent of the Spring of fresh plowed ground and the hype of harvest.
In 1973, he decided to take up flying and walked into Christian Studio to have his portrait taken, “just in case something happened while flying” and met Linda Webb, who would become his future bride. The interest in flying took a nosedive and they were married in Gering, Nebraska on April 19, 1975. They made their first home east of Harrisburg, Nebraska and later built a home in the Epworth Community and have resided there for 46 years. Their lives were blessed with two children, Bronwin and Laif who added a new dimension and completeness to their lives.
Charles will be remembered for his sense of humor and joking which often left the listener wondering if the story was true or not. He played the guitar, piano and organ in his early years, loved to sing, was raised in the RLDS Church, was a past member of the Lions and Elks, served as a director on Panhandle Coop’s Board of Directors for eighteen year, enjoyed fishing and hunting and many happy hours in the tractor or on the combine singing silly songs and some not so silly ones to his grandchildren who loved it. The void from his absence will be deeply felt.
Charles is survived by his wife, Linda, of 50 years; daughter, Bronwin (Jamie) Hanshew; son, Charles “Laif” (Sondra) Anderson; three grandsons: Bryce and Jaydeen Hanshew and Charles “Eliot” Anderson and granddaughter, Ashlynn Anderson; sister-in-law Wanda (Ed) Kimbrough and brother-in-law John (Judy) Webb; numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Luke. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law Glynette and Richard “Dick” Patton, niece Daughn and her husband John; precious grandbaby Shelby Ruth Anderson and his mother and father-in-law, Margarette and John Webb.
A funeral service will be held at Dugan Kramer Funeral Home on April 6, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. with a light reception to follow. Burial will take place in the Epworth Cemetery in Banner County.
Memorial can be made to Brookstone Hospice, Scottsbluff Humane Society or the Banner County Ambulance Fund. Fond memories and condolences may be left at www.dugankramer.com for the Anderson family.
