Clyde Eugene Schaneman, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Clyde fought the good fight against cancer for over 20 years. Clyde was born on December 28, 1951, to John and Clara (Stricker) Schaneman in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, where he spent his life dedicated to family, faith, and community.
Visitation is scheduled from 5:00pm-7:00pm, Friday, January 10, 2025, at Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel, 3201 Ave B, Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Memorial service will be 10:30am, Saturday, January 11, at Salem Congregational Church, 2001 7th Ave, Scottsbluff, NE 69361.
Clyde grew up on the family farm and attended Fairview 50 grade school before graduating from Scottsbluff High School in 1969. A natural leader, Clyde served as President of both the FFA and DECA chapters during his school years.
In December of 1969, Clyde met the love of his life, Barbara Kay Durfee, they were married on March 5, 1972. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised three wonderful daughters. Clyde’s family was his greatest joy, and his love and guidance will forever be cherished by his children and grandchildren.
In his younger years, Clyde enjoyed playing basketball at the YMCA. As his daughters grew, Clyde found immense happiness in watching them at sporting events and livestock shows. He took pride in his role as the Sheep Superintendent at the Scotts Bluff County Fair.
Clyde farmed for over 30 years, working alongside his father and brothers. Their friendship was strong, a testament to their deep belief in the importance of family. He often reminded his daughters, “Family is all we have, so treat each other well.”
In 2003, Clyde embarked on a new chapter, earning his real estate license and beginning a successful career. He later co-founded Champion Real Estate, a business that continues to thrive today. Clyde retired in 2018.
Clyde was a lifelong member of Salem Congregational Church, where he served many years on the Board of Trustees.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Jackson Thomas Brass.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Barbara, and their three daughters and sons-in-law: Jill (Scott) Richards of Overland Park, KS; Andrea (August) Lang of Ashland, NE; and Lisa (Anthony) Brass of Gothenburg, NE. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Carsen Richards, McCoy Brass, Decker Richards, and Boston Brass. His brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim (Diane) Schaneman and Marvin (Jane) Schaneman, as well as their children.
Throughout his lifetime, Clyde cherished the close friendships and relationships he built along the way. He often reflected on these connections with gratitude, acknowledging the laughter and joy they brought to his life.
Memorials will be designated to the Salem Congregational Church or Brookstone Home Health and Hospice.
