Cranston Robert McCormick, 96, of Scottsbluff passed away Monday, December 24, 2012 at Golden Living Center. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 31 at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel with Pastor Don Mathis officiating. Burial will follow at Nebraska Veteran’s Cemetery in Alliance, Nebraska. Friends may call at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel on Sunday, December 30, 2012 from 1-6 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Nebraska Veteran’s Cemetery in Alliance. Cranston was born March 15, 1916 at home on a ranch in Lewellen, Nebraska to Robert and Vera (Meeker) McCormick. He received his early education at the Rural Elementary in Box Butte County and one year at Alliance High School. Cranston married Maryanne Nicodemus on January 9, 1954 in Alliance, Nebraska and they made their home on various ranches in Western Nebraska and Eastern Wyoming. Cranston was inducted into the U.S. Army on August 10, 1942. He served in the Pacific Theater in New Guinea and the Southern Philippines, he was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart Medal and achieved the rank of Tech 4. He was honorably discharged on January 2, 1946. ‘Cranny’, as he was known by friends and family, enjoyed the ranch life; working with horses, cattle, fixing fence, operating equipment and going to brandings. In his younger years he liked to hunt and trap, but also enjoyed team roping, boxing, dancing and a good game of horseshoes. His favorite pastime in later years was visiting with friends and family. Cranny was fond of his hair cutting skills which he picked up in the military and used this skill later in life for the cowboys he worked with and his family, Cranny’s greatest joy was his family; he enjoyed making things out of wood for his kids and grandkids. Cranston is survived by his sons, Robert (Tara), Dana (Wendi) and Cameron (Katherine), grandchildren, Megan, Jessie, Maddi, Jacqui, Mallory, Hagan, Hadly, and Hunter; great-grandchildren, Trenton, Taden, Rigen and Carson; son-in-law, Dan Coffee; and numerous nieces and nephews. Cranston was proceeded in death by his wife, Maryanne; daughter, Donna Coffee; his father, Robert McCormick; his mother, Vera Skala; step-father, Lou Skala; and step-brothers, Lou Jr. and Herbert Skala.
