

Dick B. Selby, 85 of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, died Sunday, August 22, 2010 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. His funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Michael Stein officiating. Masonic rites by Robert W. Furnas Lodge #265 AF & AM. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park with military honors by the Nebraska Army National Guard. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel. A memorial has been established to the First Christian Church. Dick was born on November 21, 1924 at Mitchell, Nebraska to George and Mabel (Rickel) Selby. He received his early education at Mitchell rural District #49 and Gering Public School. He attended Gering High School. He was united in marriage to Wanda Carpenter on December 5, 1945 at Scottsbluff, Nebraska and made their home in Scottsbluff. Dick served in the U.S. Army 332nd Corp of Engineers from December 19, 1945 to February 13, 1947. He was stationed in Weisbaden, Germany. Dick was employed for over 30 years by Chester B. Brown, later Kelley Bean until ill health forced early retirement on disability. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Scottsbluff, currently holding position of Elder Emeritus. He also was a member of the Robert W. Furnas Lodge #265, Elks Lodge #1367 and a lifetime member of the VFW. Dick was a kind and gentle man, who enjoyed working in his garden, actually his garden was his pride and joy. Dick loved the Lord and his church. We all miss him so much. Survivors include his wife, Wanda of 65 years; son William “Bill” Selby; sisters Bonnie Stickney of Pavillion, WY and Ila Petersen of Casper, WY and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Earl, George, Harley, Leroy, Gerald and Clifton and sisters Mabel and Dollie.
