Donald L. “Don” Weis, age 73, of Scottsbluff, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Visitation will be Monday, January 5, 2015 from 10-7PM at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel. Cremation will take place. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 2PM at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff with Pastor Dale Brown officiating. Refreshments will be served afterwards at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel for all who wants to come and visit. Donald was born in Scottsbluff on January 25, 1941 to Jake and Minnie (Popp) Weis. He was raised on a farm. He attended Hope Elementary School, Highland School and Minatare High School.
Don had two daughters, Jeri and Judy and one son, Donald Allen, from a previous marriage.
On August 29, 1971 he married Sherry (Robinson) Weis. From this union, they had one daughter, Stacy and one son, Corey. They have nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He worked for Magnolia Mobile Homes for about 14 years. He then worked for Packerland Packing Co. for about 26 years and then retired. He worked for RV’s 4 U up until his passing.
He owned a small engine repair service that he operated out of his garage for family and friends. He enjoyed visiting with everyone that brought over small equipment to fix. He restored a John Deere tractor and also a Ford tractor. He used the Ford tractor to grade the dirt roads near his home when they needed it. He also restored a 1955 Chevy and a 1962 Chevy. He loved restoring things.
He belonged to Western Nebraska React Club and received many Plaques. He was a member of a stock car club and he and Sherry participated in a Pinochle Card Club, which they enjoyed so much.
Other interests were, woodworking, an avid Husker fan, loved traveling to Deadwood, SD and Prairie Winds, fishing, camping, stock car racing, and playing cards. He loved being around family and friends. He so loved being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry Weis of Scottsbluff; daughters, Jeri Johnson of Scottsbluff, Judy (Rob) Conn of Mitchell, Stacy Stackhouse of Scottsbluff; one son Corey Weis of Gering; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold (Judy) Weis of Torrington, WY; three sisters, Helen Weinmaster of Morrill, Ruth Weis of Gering, and Marian (Fred) Bernhardt of Gering; mother-in-law, Billie Kenzy and step father-in-law Frank Kenzy; numerous nieces and nephews, and 3 very dear and close friends that he considered part of his family, Richard and Fran Meter and Margaret Knoles.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Donald Allen; son-in-law, Dion Johnson; father-in-law, Ray Robinson; and numerous aunts and uncles.
