

Donald E. Stubby, 74, of Scottsbluff, died Wednesday, January 6, 2009 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 11, 2010 at Faith Lutheran Church in Gering with Pastor Richard Neugebauer officiating. Military rites will be given by the U. S. Marine Corps. Cremation will follow the service and his ashes will be interred at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering. Donald was born February 22, 1935 in Gering, NE to LeRoy and Elsie (Feil) Stubby. He attended school in Gering and was employed by Lockwood’s and local potato cellars. He entered the U. S. Marine Corps April 27, 1954 during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged April 26, 1957 after attaining the rank of Sergeant. He married Betty Wiedeman May 11, 1955 in Scottsbluff. Don worked for Wiedeman Brothers Construction from 1957 until 1970, Co-op refinery from 1970-1976, Elcon construction in 1977 and that same year started Stub’s Construction. Don semi-retired in 2003. Don was currently a crossing guard for the Scottsbluff Police Department at 24th and Ave B. Don was a member of 23 Club Baseball since 1957 and a member of West Nebraska Sportsman Assn since 1975. He held all office positions in both organizations. He joined the Nebraska Council of Sports Clubs in 1963 where he served on the board of directors and attended many meetings in Lincoln to set season times and support legislative bills pertaining to outdoor recreation. He was also a member of the Nebraska Wild Life Protection Agency, Ducks Unlimited for thirty years, Pheasants Forever, Rocky Mountain Elk Association, Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Admiral Dewey Post #1367 and the American Legion Post #36. Don enjoyed outdoor recreation, hunting, fishing, trap shooting and going to craft fairs with his wife and daughter. Don is survived by his wife Betty, daughters: Debe (Mark) Miller, Alliance, NE and June (Ken) Keller, Scottsbluff, NE; sons: Glen (Debbie) Stubby, Lyman, NE and Tom (Julie) Stubby, Omaha, NE; sisters: Jean Hendren, Gering, NE, and Carol (David) Rice, Scottsbluff, NE; half brother: Larry Stubby, and step brother Tim Hessler both of Gering, NE; grandchildren: Scott (Lori) Miller, Pensacola, FL, Maggie (Drew) Weldon, Austin, TX, Eric Miller, Panama City Beach, FL, Christy (Dan) White, Scottsbluff, NE, Jim Keller, Marino Valley, CA, Tiffany (Casey) Hottell, Kimball, NE, Tony Keller, Des Moines, IA, Stuart Stubby, Los Angeles, CA, Vaughn Stubby, Omaha, NE; great grandchildren: Reilan Weldon, Austin, TX, Katelyn White, Scottsbluff, NE Bridgette Hottell and Trenton Hottell. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Dorothy Stubby, brother, Jerald Stubby, brother-in-law, Bob Hendren, and nephews, J. J. Stubby and Rick Rice
