

Dorothy Black, 91, of Scottsbluff, died Friday, December 18, 2015 at Heritage Estates in Gering. A memorial service will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel with Pastor Willie Coop officiating. Casual attire is encouraged. Private inurnment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to donor’s choice or the Dorothy Black Memorial. Dorothy was born in Ravenna, NE. on June 6, 1924 to Carl and Clara (Gustavson) DeMaranville. On November 1, 1942, she was united in marriage to Melvin Black in Castle Rock, CO. To this union two sons, Bruce and Doug were born.
Dorothy resided in Scottsbluff most of her life and worked at Woolworths, Ben Franklin and retired from Ace Hardware. She loved crocheting, cooking and spending time with family and friends. The past few years her “granddaughter” Rylee, kept her busy playing ball and making pancakes.
Dorothy is survived by her son Bruce (Stephanie) Black of Scottsbluff, grandson Aaron (Laurie) Black of W. Palm Beach, FLA., several niece and nephews, very special niece Connie (Ivan) Harpold of Scottsbluff, great-nephew Cameron Harpold of Scottsbluff, and special “daughter-in-law” Stephanie Curtis-Swanson of Fort Collins, CO.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents Carl and Clara, husband Melvin, son Doug, sisters Blanche, Irene, Vi, and Darlene, brothers Kenny, Carl Jr., and Jerry and “son-in-law” Doug Curtis.
