

Douglas R. Lovell, 84, of Gering, died Monday, June 14, 2010, at Heritage Estates in Gering. A graveside service will be held at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, Nebraska, at a later date. Cremation was at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory at Scottsbluff. A memorial has been established to the Scholarship Fund at Gering American Legion Post No. 36. Doug was born November 18, 1925, at Flower Field, Nebraska, to Clarence and Nellie (Williams) Lovell. He graduated from Gering High School in 1943. He served in the submarine service, in the United States Navy during World War II from July 1943 to November 1946. Following his discharge from the Navy he returned to Gering. On May 25, 1947, he married Frankie Warden in Gering. They made their home in Gering where he worked as a brick mason in the area, retiring in 1985. Doug was a member of the VFW, Gering American Legion Post No. 36 and International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers. Survivors include his wife, Frankie Lovell; children, Jean Lovell of Lincoln, Richard (Linda) Lovell of Lyman and Lynn Roberts (Ken Kozak) of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren, Brian and Ben Lovell of Scottsbluff and Erin (Matt) Holcomb of Gering; brother, Keith (Evelyn) Lovell of Riverton, Wyoming; and numerous nieces and nephews. Doug was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William and Gordon Lovell; and sister, Alice Kregar.
