Earl Eugene Carpenter, 86, of Morrill, Nebraska, passed away at his home surrounded by the love of his family on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.
Earl was born on June 30, 1940, in Morrill, Nebraska, to Carl and Rose Carpenter. He was raised on the family farm, where he developed the strong work ethic, determination, and love of agriculture that remained with him throughout his life.
After graduating from Liberty High School, Earl proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. On December 15, 1962, he married the love of his life, Sandra "Kay" Gould, at the First Baptist Church in Torrington, Wyoming. Together they made their home in Morrill, where they raised their family and shared more than 54 years of marriage before Kay's passing in 2017.
Earl dedicated much of his career to Jirdon Ag, where he worked until retirement. Even then, retirement never truly suited him. He continued helping with farming operations, repairing equipment, and taking on small projects until just last year. Earl believed in the value of hard work and took pride in a job well done.
A talented craftsman, Earl enjoyed woodworking and building projects for those he loved. One of his greatest joys was creating handcrafted hope chests for each of his children and grandchildren, gifts that continue to be treasured by his family. He was also proud of rebuilding a tractor and maintaining a cornfield that became a gathering place for his children and grandchildren. Many summers were spent working alongside him in the field, sharing stories, learning life lessons, and making memories that will last a lifetime.
More than anything, Earl loved his family. Whether tending crops, working in his shop, sitting and visiting with family, or passing along his knowledge to younger generations, he found happiness in simple moments spent with those he loved. His legacy lives on through the values he instilled, the things he built with his hands, and the memories he created with family and friends.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Rose Carpenter; his beloved wife, Sandra "Kay" Carpenter; his brother, George Carpenter; and his great-grandchildren, Bernard Straetker and Adalynn Straetker.
He is survived by his children, Norman Carpenter of Morrill, Nebraska, Angela (Skeeter) Mills of Morrill, Nebraska, and Kevin (Janelle) Carpenter of Torrington, Wyoming; grandchildren, Alex Carpenter of Rawlins, Wyoming, Dani (Bernie) Straetker of North Platte, Nebraska, Andrea of Torrington, Wyoming, Brandon Mills of Fremont, Nebraska, Kyla (Calvin) Morsette of Lusk, Wyoming, Sarah (Luke) Kimes of Lusk, Wyoming, and Matthew (Jeanette) McConnell of Lusk, Wyoming; great-grandchildren include Emily and Abigail Straetker; Braelynn and Conner Fronapfel; Tyson and Cian Kimes; Abby and Samantha McConnell; and Blake, Calliope, and Stormie Morsette; and many cherished nieces and nephews, extended family members, and close friends whose lives were enriched by his kindness and friendship.
Earl will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, his service to his country, his craftsmanship, and most importantly, his devotion to his family. His hands built many things throughout his life, but his greatest accomplishment was the family he loved and supported. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew him.
Memorial Services for Earl will be held at the American Legion in Morrill, Nebraska, on Monday, November 02, 2026, at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Johnny Wimberly officiating. Earl and his wife, Sandra, will be laid to rest at the Forrest Lawn Cemetery in Morrill following the Memorial Service.
