

Earl E. Furrey, 74, of Gering, died Saturday, March 12, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel with Pastor Tyson Lambertson officiating. Military honors by U.S. Navy will follow services. Earl was born on December 7, 1941 at Long Pine to Charles and Sarah (Johnson) Furrey. He entered into the United States Navy on February 25, 1960 and served until his honorable discharge on February 5, 1971. Earl served in the Vietnam Conflict during his service time. While in the Navy, he received his GED.
Earl was united in marriage on June 8, 1961 to Carolyn Strodtman at Scottsbluff, where they made their home. To this union two children were born, Kenneth and Katherine.
Earl worked at Lockwoods as a laborer for 27 years until his retirement in 1999. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a “master of all trades” and could fix anything that needed fixed.
Earl was a member of the VFW and American Legion.
Earl is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carol, son Kenneth (Dianna) of Gering, daughter Katherine (Monty) Moore of Hutchinson, Kansas, 6 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, numerous siblings, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law Raymond and Betty Jean Strodtman, brothers John and Harley, infant sister Karen, brother-in-law Bill Strodtman, nephew Dustin Wernli, and granddaughter Karissa Shannon.
