Edna Laurena Gibson

Edna Laurena Gibson, 94, of Scottsbluff, died Sunday, October 28, 2007 at the Residency Care Center. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 1, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Tom Perkins officiating. Interment will be in West Lawn Cemetery in Gering. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Prairie Haven Hospice. Friends may call at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel between 9:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. Wednesday. Edna was born September 21, 1913 in Alamena, Kansas to Etna and Rhoda (Beardslee) Houghtaling. She moved with her family to Gering Valley January 29, 1919 and received her education in a two room country school #8. She graduated from Gering High School. Edna was employed at J. C. Penney for a number of years before moving to California where she worked to Hughes Aircraft for 19 years and three months retiring February 1, 1976. Edna married James Gibson October 1, 1975 and after retirement returned to Gering where they lived on the farm south of Gering until December of 1993 when they moved to the Residency in Scottsbluff. She is survived by her step children: Florene (Keith) Weber, Colorado Springs, CO, Don Gibson, Scottsbluff, NE, Betty (Larry) Vifquain, Marlboro, MA and Garry (Cecelia) Gibson of Fremont, CA; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Edna was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one grandson, three brothers and two sisters.
