Evelyn I Henderson

Evelyn I. Henderson, age 87 of Mitchell, died January 7, 2016 at Regional West Medical Center. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, January 15, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff with Pastor Bev Russell officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 1-7 P.M. at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mitchell Volunteer Fire Department or the donor’s choice. Evelyn was born August 22, 1928, at the family farm near Henry, NE to Lavern and Mable (Ashman) Nealy. She received her education at Henry, Pleasant View and Torrington, WY.

Evelyn married Don Gompert on February 14, 1949. She married James R. “Bob” Henderson on June 14, 1974, and they made their home in Sioux County, NE. Evelyn worked all of her life starting with the candy store and café at Morrill, which became the Stockfeeder’s Club. She also worked at L. B. Murphy and Barrett’s Produce. Evelyn and Don owned D&E Liquor Store in Mitchell for 11 years. After she married Bob, Evelyn worked at Cheatum’s Dress Shop and on the family ranch.

Evelyn is survived by her siblings Margy Cochran, Charlotte (Clifford) Hanson, Boyd (Donna) Nealy, Monty (Bev) Nealy and Karen (Herbert) Englehart; stepchildren Becky Jones, Mona Carpenter (Mike Haselden) and Jim (Carolyn) Henderson; two granddaughters; two great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob Henderson on December 22, 2015, sisters Harriet Waters and Rose Ish, brother Leonard Nealy, brothers-in-law Forrest Cochran, Jr., Bud Ish and Neil Waters and son-in-law Randy Jones.
