

This obituary was co-written by Frank Combs and his immediate family while anticipating his passing. With many heartfelt thanks to the Scottsbluff Dialysis Center (Davita), and his wife, Marjorie Combs, Frank successfully completed nearly 12 years on dialysis. He made the decision to discontinue kidney dialysis on January 19, 2006. Frank J. Combs, 82, of Scottsbluff, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family and friends, the evening of January 24, 2006. This graceful and comforting transition was made possible by Prairie Haven Hospice. A memorial service will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, January 28, 2006, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel, Scottsbluff with Pastor Michael Stein officiating. The Nebraska National Guard will provide military honors. Cremation was at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory, Scottsbluff. He was born on July 7, 1923, in Boelus, Nebraska and was raised primarily in Lusk, Wyoming. Frank married Marjorie Plaster on July 9, 1943 and they had five sons. Frank worked in the Scottsbluff area between military assignments and his service background included: U.S. Army Air Corp (3/46 -12/46), U.S. Army, Korea with Battery A, 13th Field Artillery, 24th Infantry Division (7/50 -11/51). U.S. Army, Vietnam (10/58-12/59). Frank was accompanied by his family while in the Army in Germany and France, (66-69). While in Germany, he was appointed the position of U.S. Army Sr. NCO for NATO. Frank retired from the U.S. Army active military (1969), U.S. Civil Service, (1986) and the U.S. Army Reserves - Enlisted Advisor Idaho State Reserve Units (1986). Commendations Frank received were: Bronze Star, WW II Victory Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with 5 Bronze Stars. He was a member of the Scottsbluff Eagles, Elks, DAV and American Legion. Frank enjoyed wood working, genealogy, gardening, walking on the beach, and being on his computer. When asked what his greatest enjoyment in life was, Frank answered ""Being married to my wife for 63 years"". He is survived by wife Marjorie, (Scottsbluff), 3 sons: Larry & wife, Diane (Houston, Texas), Brian (Scottsbluff) and Rex & wife, Sandra (Port St. Lucie, Florida), 15 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, sisters: Nadine (John) Wagner, (Scottsbluff), Maxine Heimbuck (Guymon, Oklahoma), in-laws: Charlotte & Harry Stanley, Laura & Jerry Staley, John & Anne Plaster (all of Scottsbluff) as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Frank was preceded in death by two sons: Ronald and Thomas Combs.
