Joan was born on March 28, 1936, in Gering, NE to John and Deena (Darnell) Duff. She received her education in Gering, NE and graduated in 1955. She married Doyle Parmenter on September 23, 1955, and shortly after they moved to California where they began building their family with Pamela, Cynthia and Richard. Their family later moved to Nebraska and then to Colorado where Joan began her career in Banking. She worked at Berthoud National Bank until her retirement in 1988.
Upon retirement Joan and Doyle returned to Nebraska where they enjoyed a quieter life surrounded by the things she loved. She had many interests and hobbies, including quilting, raising chickens and peacocks, attending antique auctions and fishing. In her younger years, she also enjoyed bowling.
Above all, she treasured time spent with her family. Her love, care, and presence brought warmth to those around her, and the memories she created with her family will be cherished for years to come.
She will be lovingly remembered by her Husband of 70 years, Doyle; Children, Cindy Kilmer (Chuck), Rick Parmenter (Linda); Son-in-Law, Steve Heilbrun; Grandchildren, Amie Reuter (Ryan), Matthew Heilbrun (Beth Anne), Amanda Allison (Keith), David Heilbrun (Christie), Jolee Sawyer (Jeromy), Andrea Parmenter, Cody Kilmer (Jordan), Charlie Kilmer, Zachary Parmenter and Katie Lucas (Mason); 18 Great-Grandchildren; Sisters, Sarah Losey (Ken) and Dee Fitts (Gary); along with many nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her Parents, John and Dena Duff; Daughter, Pam Heilbrun; Siblings, Martin Duff (Maxine), Peggy Collins (Buck); and Niece, Marlene Pexton.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, family, hard work, and a life filled with simple pleasures and cherished memories.
Funeral Services for Joan will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026, at the Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel at 10:30 A.M. with Pastor Tim Hebbert officiating. Burial will follow at the West Lawn Cemetery in Gering, Nebraska.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at the Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M.
