

H.L. “Mac” McKibbin, 95, of Scottsbluff, died Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at The Residency Care Center in Scottsbluff. A family and friends gathering will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, November 7, 2010, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff and a second gathering will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bayard. Cremation was at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory in Scottsbluff. Private family inurnment will be in the West Lawn Cemetery in Gering. Memorials have been established to Prairie Haven Hospice, Bridgeport Public School Foundation and Bayard Public Schools. H.L. “Mac” was born February 17, 1915, in Bridgeport, Nebraska to Clement C. and Annie E. (Lucas) McKibbin. He attended Bridgeport High School and graduated in 1933. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1933 to 1935. His group served at Red Cloud, Cressent Lake at Oshkosh and constructed the road going up to the Scotts Bluff National Monument. He then went on to attend Chilicothe Business College in 1936. H.L. “Mac” married Margaret “Margo” Ebersole, in March of 1937, in Sidney, Nebraska. They had a son Jerold L. “Jerry” McKibbin March 29, 1938. H.L. “Mac” served in the United States Army, Company L, Second Infantry Regiment, 5th Division in France in 1944 as an automatic rifleman which included Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, and European Theatre Badge with two combat stars. His banking career began in 1936, at First National Bank of Bayard as a teller. He served as president of First National Bank of Bayard, Bank of Gering, and Minatare State Bank throughout his banking career. He served as president of the Nebraska Bankers Association in 1971, and was awarded a fifty year banker award from them in 1986. He was a member of the Gering Chamber of Commerce and was involved in economic development in Scottsbluff and Gering. He was also active in the Pioneer Days at Bayard and was instrumental in lighting of Chimney Rock. He was a life member of the VFW and Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of First Presbyterian Church in Scottsbluff and the Elks Lodge. He was a fifty year member of Camp Clarke Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. at Bridgeport and was a member of the Scottish Rite. Survivors include his daughter-in-law, Beth McKibbin of Lake Minatare; granddaughter, Delni McKibbin-Rasmussen of Omaha; grandson and his wife, Randy and Micki McKibbin of Minatare; seven great-grandchildren, Matthew, Joshua, Micah, and Hannah Rasmussen, and Mitchell, Carlie, and Shelbie McKibbin; and nephew, Gary Berta and his family. H.L. “Mac” was preceded in death by his son, Jerry; wife, Margo; sisters, Nadine Berta, Maxine Moriarty, and infant sister, Marie; parents, Clement and Annie McKibbin; and nephew, Lanny Berta.
