

Helen L. Ferguson, 83, of Scottsbluff, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, June 16, 2010, after a ten month battle with cancer. A memorial service to celebrate Helen’s life will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 24, 2010, at First Christian Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Michael Stein officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons, Kevin Gardner, Jim Stockwell, Tyler Stockwell, Josh Ferguson, and Shane Ferguson. Memorials have been established to First Christian Church and Prairie Haven Hospice. Helen was born April 17, 1927, in Bayard, Nebraska, the fifth of six children, to parents, Christ and Mary (Spahn) Nuss. She attended grew up and attended schools in Bayard. She married Harold E. Ferguson on October 6, 1946, in Scottsbluff and four children were born to this union. They were married for 52 years, until the time of Harold’s death. She was a member of the First Christian Church for the past 64 years. She loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother, and attended many of her children and grandchildren’s activities throughout the years. Other things she enjoyed were cooking, reading, serving in her church, traveling, shopping, music, and dancing. Her greatest legacy in life was her deep and abiding faith in God, demonstrated by her unconditional love, support, and encouragement she gave to her family. Our beloved Mom is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Valerie and Jim Gardner of Mesa, Arizona and Gail and Scott Stockwell of Ness City, Kansas; sons and daughters-in-law, Rod and Sheri Ferguson of Phoenix, Arizona and Perry and Cheryl Ferguson of Scottsbluff; grandchildren Dorine (Paul) Miller, Kevin Gardner, Kristi (Chris) Belscher, Toby (Robin) Leafgreen, Josh Ferguson, Jordan Ferguson, Jim (Janelle) Stockwell, Ty (Janae) Stockwell, Shane Ferguson, and Holly Ferguson; great-grandchildren, Kayla Brummett, Adam Belscher, Wyatt Belscher, Morgan Miller, Amber Miller, Landon Stockwell, Logan Stockwell, Alaira Leafgreen, Hunter Leafgreeen, and Gibson Leafgreen; brothers, John Nuss and Daniel Nuss; sisters-in-law, Lucille Nuss, Lorraine Nuss, Betty Ferguson, Jean Ferguson, and Irma Ferguson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her husband Harold, her parents, two brothers, and one sister.
