Jamie was born to Darr and Jane (Morrison) John on June 24, 1957 in Scottsbluff. He was the eldest of four children, followed by Judy, Trudy and Debbie.
Jamie – affectionately known by those who knew him – devoted his life to his family and his career of 36 years in the Signal Department of BNSF. He provided for his family eloquently and never complained.
His love and passion for life was never ending. Nature was his first love after his family. Some of his calmest, most memorable times were sitting in his “tree stand” watching the sun rise, hearing the birds sing, and enjoying the solace of the quiet. Hunting and fishing took him to his favorite spots—be it Lake Minatare, in the hills of Gering Valley or the far reaches of Alaska.
Friday evenings were reserved for playing “golf” pool with his favorite buddies at the Rompus Room. His trademark was his bib overalls. In fact, he got teased if he wore anything else. Bibs were his daily attire except for church and family events.
Jamie and Kris Meier met and fell in love in 1977. They were married on December 10, 1977. Two beautiful children, Travis and Jennifer, completed the circle of love.
Jamie will be remembered for his gentle demeanor, his peace keeping efforts, his love of teaching kids sports and his devotion to life.
Jamie was raised and baptized at the Central Church of Christ in Gering. His faithfulness of serving the communion plates was his delight.
Jamie’s family who will continue to carry his legacy forward are his wife, Kris John, their children and families, Travis (Linnea) John, Foster and Jaxie of Gering and Jennifer (Brandon) Brock, Kinsley and Everley of Lakenheath AFB-UK. His father, Darr John, and the sisters of Jamie, Judy John, Trudy (Steve) Embree, Debbie John and companion, Lynn Dawson also mourn his passing. He has many, many relatives, near and far who will also miss him dearly. Many friends, too numerous to mention, will mourn with the family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jane John, and grandparents, Lawrence (Mildred) John and Ralph (Dorothy) Morrison.
“Bipolar depression disrupts and devastates lives and tends to dominate the course of a person’s illness. Yet, it’s still difficult to diagnose and treat.”
Our hope is that the medical field with the Lord’s guidance will find a better treatment and diagnosis.
