

James Edward Sherrod, 66 of Gering, Nebraska died Sunday, November 04, 2007 at his home. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 501 Winter Creek Drive, Scottsbluff, with Bishop Carl Baird officiating. Interment will follow at the Oregon Trail Memorial Cemetery with military honors by the Nebraska National Guard. Visitation will be Tuesday at Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Ed was born on June 11, 1941 in Knoxville, Tenn., the son of David William and Maudie Evelyn (Dills) Sherrod. He attended and graduated from Rawlins High School in Rawlins, WY. in 1959. He entered the U.S. Navy on June 9, 1959 and was stationed on the USS Kitty Hawk, serving in Japan and Vietnam. He was honorably discharged on August 30, 1968. He worked for the Post Office while attending the National University. He received his Masters degree in Business and Administration. He remained working for the Post Office (San Diego, Cheyenne, Dallas and Washington, DC.) retiring in November of 1992. After retiring he moved to Gering in January 1993. Ed married Jane Rose on May 29, 1982 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Ed was a very active in his church. He enjoyed bowling, archery, computers and watching all kinds of sports. He played football in High School and the Navy. Survivors include his wife, Jane; son, Kenneth Bodily of Kapolie, Hawaii; daughter Elizabeth Bodily (Jonas Williams) of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Sarah Morris, Zachary Williams and Serena McCollum all of San Diego, CA; brother and sisters, Lawrence Tyson (Nancy) Sherrod of Dedham, Mass, Gladys Larsen of Dixon, WY, and Frances Elizabeth DeCou of Cheyenne, WY. and numerous nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Marjie Rose of Bridgeport, and sister-in-law Joyce Rose of Salt Lake City, UT. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Donna Jo Sherrod, brother, Mervin Frederick Sherrod and sister, Katherine Chorina Schuler.
