Jeanne was born December 24, 1947, to Myron and Helen (Studnicka) in Sidney, Nebraska. She attended a country school for two years before it was consolidated into the Potter Public School system when the new school was built. She graduated Salutatorian in 1965, with the largest class in school history. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in 1969 and Master’s degree in 1997, both from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Jeanne married Daniel R. Murray, an Air Force officer, on June 21, 1970. They lived in Cheyenne, WY; Denver, CO; Bicester, England; Bellevue, NE; and finally, Scottsbluff, NE. He proceeded her in death in 1994.
Jeanne taught Home Economics in Dalton, NE, and at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, WY. Upon returning from England, she was a Media instructor and Study Hall teacher at Gering Jr. High School for 17 years. After completing her Master’s, she became the Box Butte County Extension Educator in the area of Nutrition and Health. Her work included helping the community learn about the Medicare prescription drug program. She helped thousands of people and saved them millions of dollars. She never retired from this program even though she actually retired from Extension in 2015!
Jeanne is survived by her companion, Donald Peters, who she cared for since 2021; daughter, Anita Murray (Stephen Erdman) and their children, Ian and Fiona; son, Bryan and Angela (Vrtiska) Murray and their daughter, Madisyn; sister, Kathy (Ron) Drews; and brother, Ray (Tammy) Woten; plus, numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Myron and Helen Woten; in-laws, Donald and Alice Murray; and husband, Daniel Murray.
Memorial Services will be held Thursday, September 17, 2026 at 11:00 am at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff, NE, with Pastor Kathy Montira. A luncheon will follow the service. A Private Family Inurnment will follow at 2:00 P.M. at the Potter Cemetery in Potter, NE.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Potter Fire Department, Prairie West Church, and Calvary Lutheran Church.
