

John Haas of Mitchell, NE went to be with his Lord after a courageous battle with cancer with his family by his side on Thursday, June 23, 2011. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at Federated Church in Mitchell with Dr. Charles Richardson officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery. A service of memory and sharing of stories will be held 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff. Memorials have been established to Federated Church or to Prairie Haven Hospice. John was born September 24, 1927 to Adam and Amalia (Schmall) Haas on the family farm outside of Bayard. He attended school in the Bayard area and graduated from Minatare High School in 1945. John married Ermadean Jansen, the one true love of his life, on November 16, 1947. They began their life together farming in the Valley until John began his career in the insurance industry. He enjoyed working at his career for more than 35 years, earning numerous awards. John loved making new friends where ever he went. He was active in the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia and sang with the Salem German Choir, the Life Underwriters Association, he served for many years as a church board member, and was a lifetime member of the Elks. John loved golfing, playing cards with his friends and was an avid fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Most of all,John was loved and cherished by all that knew him. John is survived by his loving wife, Ermadean, his daughters, Jennifer (Toby) Tyler, Susan Haas, and Grace Ann Hendrickson, and son Charles Haas. He has 6 grandchildren, Lisa Wlaschin, Ryan Medina, Amy Ramos, Christine Tyler, Jessica Hendrickson and Nicolas Hendrickson; great grandchildren, Jacob and Justin Smeaker, Logan Medina, Brandon and Jordan Ramos, Vivian Tyler, and Sara and Colin Hendrickson. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Alec, Adam, Carl, Henry, Jacob, and Herman; sisters: Amalia, Esther and Rosie.
