
John Alva “Jack” Wyland, 66, of Bridgeport, died Saturday, January 1st 2005 at Morrill County Community Hospital in Bridgeport. Military services will be held 1:00 pm, Thursday, January 6th at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD. John was born on Jan. 8th, 1938 to Alfred and Bertha (Hinner) Wyland in Alliance, Ne. He received his education in Hemingford and joined the U.S. Navy in May of 1955, and retired from the Navy in June of 1979. He then worked for the B. N. Railroad for 16 years. He was a loving and devoted family man in the truest sense of the word. He will be greatly missed by his entire family. He loved working with his wife and family on genealogy and enjoyed sports his entire life. In the fall on Saturday afternoons when the Cornhuskers were playing, it was a “do not disturb” time. He was also an avid treasure hunter and rock hound. He enjoyed feeding the bluejays and squirrels every morning. John never met a stranger and always made people feel welcome. When he was in the Navy, John regularly brought enlisted friends home for the holidays when they couldn’t make it home to their own families. John was a great people person and was known as a born leader. John is survived by his wife Judy, son Randy Wyland of Bridgeport, daughter Sherri (Grant) Iske of Vona, CO; brother, LeRoy (Candy) Wyland of Las Vegas, NV; sisters, Norma (Jerome) Kosmicki of Grand Island, Donna (Bill) Meng of Gordon, Debbie (Jerry) Mundt of Berea, NE; brother in law, George Wickham of Hemingford, sister in law Colleen Wyland of Hemingford, sister in law Jan (Gary) Tuggle of Custer, SD.; granddaughter, Lauren (Tim) Kloer of Ft. Collins, Co., grandson Brett Iske of Greeley, CO. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. John is preceded in death by his parents Alfred (Bertha) Wyland; son John; brothers Kenny, Donald, Robert and Thomas; sister Carol; granddaughter Lindsay Iske; nephews Kevin Tuggle and Jerome Edward Kosmicki; and niece Tony Mracek
