

Judy Ann Hewett, 62, of McGrew, passed away Thursday, December 1, 2016 at her home. Her funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at WestWay Christian Church with Pastor Marshall Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the Bayard Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 1-6 PM on Monday at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Judy was born July 6, 1954 at Scottsbluff, NE to Ross and Hazel (Willey) Hewett. She received her education at Bayard, graduating with the Class of 1972. She attended Kearney State College for one year.
Judy started working for the Bayard Swimming Pool in 1970 and for the City of Scottsbluff in 1974 in various positions, including being a life guard. Swimming stayed an important part of her life. She taught thousands of people of all ages and abilities how to swim and be safe in the water through the Red Cross. She swam across a 1 mile canal in Washington with one of her students who had a handicap. Judy loved teaching her sisters, nieces, nephews, and friends how to play Canasta, Cribbage, and Yahtzee. Judy returned home from the hospital on Friday and entered Hospice care. She did get to play her last game of Canasta on this earth on Sunday.
Judy moved to Clallam County, Washington in the mid 1980’s returning to the valley in mid 1990’s. Judy worked for the Red Cross Disaster Services, Families of Armed Forces, and the Aquatics Programs. She was a board member and chairman of the Lakota Territorial Council. Judy was a volunteer for the American Red Cross from 1970-2005 when an injury forced her to resign.
Judy is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Ruby and Gary Kuxhausen of Scottsbluff; brother and sister-in-law Marvin and Janet Hewett of Scottsbluff; sister Dora Paben of McGrew; nieces and nephews Randy (Kathy) Avolio, Kim Cardwell, Michelle Kuxhausen, Steve Hewett, Paul Hewett, Colette Hewett, Mike (Gloria) Denham, Jana (Brian) Brown, John (Kathy) Fowlkes, Tanya Wurm, Jeff (Kira) Paben, Mike (Amy) Paben, April (Frank) Strong, and J.R. Paben; great-nieces and nephews Cameron (Dana) Cardwell and Kendra Cardwell, Danielle Kuxhausen and Kyle Kuxhausen, Lupe Alfaro and Priscilla Alfaro, Destiny (Nicholas) Crawford, Judy Belford, Josh Hewett, Mike (Hollie) Denham, Jamie (Vince) Benes, Justin Brown, Kurstin Brown, Austin Brown, Aaron, Christopher , and Jeremiah Wurm, Logan and Haley Paben, Sarah and Zechariah Paben, Tate and Caitlin Strong, Jerica, Jenton, Joslyn, Kyle, Frankie, and Destiny Paben; great-great-nieces and nephews Sara, Hazel, Payton, Izaac, Izaiah, Jaslynn, Taevyn, Isaac; lifelong friend Patty Valentine.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Ross and Hazel Hewett; sister and brother-in-law Janet and Leo Denham Jr, brother Gerald Ross Hewett, brother-in-law Melvin “Duane” Paben, nephew in law Greg Cardwell, great-great-nephew Brandon Crawford.
