

Julia Rose McClure, 93, of Gering passed away Saturday, July 2, 2011. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Gary Cole officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park. Memorials are to be made to the church. Friends may call at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel between 1 and 8:00 p.m. Tuesday; family will be present from 6-8 p.m. Julia was born September 18, 1917 to James and Rachael (Fullington) Hartford in Central City, Nebraska. On October 4, 1939 she married T. Burton McClure in Central City, NE. They were married for 62 years and had three children. They moved to the valley in the early 1940’s where Burton was involved in farming and Julia was by his side helping in every way she could. She always had a big garden to can and raised chickens. Julia was very active in her church, having been a member for more than 70 years. She served many years as chairman of the Deaconess Board, director of VBS, president of Women’s Missionary Society, and taught the 4 and 5 year old Sunday school class for over 50 years. She and Burton were very diligent about visiting the shut-ins from the church and the area. The Lord and the church were a very important part of her life and this was her legacy to her children to love the Lord and serve Him in all that they did. She was a volunteer for RWMC Auxiliary since the 1950’s. Even when she worked full time she always had time to volunteer. She had accumulated over 15,000 volunteer hours. Julia worked at Baumgartner Variety in downtown Scottsbluff from the middle 1960’s to the day that they closed. She loved working there as she was such a people person. Julia is survived by daughter Carole (Sonny) Kissler of Gering, son Tom (Jan) McClure of St. Charles, MO, daughter Susan (Steve) Maul of Scottsbluff; grandchildren Kim (Darrin) Prowant of Ankeny, IA, Kevin (Nan) Kissler of Gering, Koni (Cory) Kilpatrick of Gering, Rob McClure of Marshalltown, IA, Julie (Doug) Sutton of St. Charles, MO and Jennifer Heinhold of Scottsbluff; 12 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, 1 sister and several nieces and nephews. Proceeding Julia in death were here parents, her husband Burton in 2001, two brothers, two sisters, and great-grandson Samuel Sutton.
