

Leona Reifschneider Green, 89, of rural Minatare, died Thursday, February 19, 2015 at her home with her husband by her side. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at St. James Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff with Reverend Ralph Morris officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM on Monday with the family present at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff. Leona was born December 19, 1925 at Bayard the ninth child of Carl and Katherine (Hein) Reifschneider. She received her education in Bayard, graduating from Bayard High School with the Class of 1943. Leona was united in marriage to George Green on June 6, 1943 at St. James Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff. The couple made their home and raised their three children in the rural Minatare area.
Leona was a member of St. James Lutheran Church since 1943 and held various leadership positions within the Lutheran Women Missionary League, the Dorcas Society, sang in the church choir, taught Sunday School and vacation bible school.
Leona was a member of the Pleasant Hour Club since 1954, active volunteer for the Minatare school, and served on the election board for over 20 years. She sang with the Valley Voices for many years enjoying a trip to sing at Carnegie Hall in New York City. She was an Admiral in the Nebraska Navy, and was a long time volunteer and member of the Regional West Medical Center Auxiliary.
Leona loved to travel and was an excellent seamstress and cook.
Leona is survived by her devoted husband of 71 years George Green; children George Lee (Judy) Green, Loren James (Tricia) Green, and Suzanne (Bill) Johnston; four granddaughters Amy Katherine (Michael) DeLorm, Sara (James) Trusler, Stephanie Alyssa Johnston, and Charlotte Alyssa Johnston; four great-grandchildren Austin Michael Lockard, Aiden Martin Smith, Lily Elizabeth Trusler, and Drake Sanderson DeLorm; step-siblings Mollie Siegfried, Eleanore Jones, and Richard (Phyllis) Reifschneider; several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Leona was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers Carl, Alex, Henry, Jake, and Robert, step-brothers Carl H, Alex H, Henry H, and Albert, four sisters Susanna Stricker, Katherine Kamerzell, Lydia Warren, and Min Schreiner, and step-sisters Natalie Reis, and Marie Levick.
